Long awaited update
As you might guess from the absence of posts, we've been very busy for a couple of months. Nothing much really new in our own lives, but Lorreta's sister and her nephew have both been through relationship endings. Loretta's sister, Wanda, is staying with us while she raises money for rent or for a down payment on a house.
We are currently doing without a motor vehicle. The minivan behaved just fine last Thursday night when I drove it to a meeting. Friday morning, when Loretta headed for work, the starter turned as usual, but no fire. Fortunately, Wanda offered Loretta a ride to work immediately. In fact, Wanda's presence and willingness to help out with transportation have been very handy.
A friend of Loretta's looked at the minivan today. It needs a fuel pump again. We put one of those on it a couple of years ago. If I remember correctly, that cost us $169 for just the part back then. Loretta's friend thinks he can find somebody to install it pretty cheaply, like $20 or $30.
My (Calvin's) only worry in all this is whether I can get to that same Thursday meeting. It's the only suburban meeting I attend, and it's not near a bus line. I might end up riding one of the bicycles most of the way.
Speaking of bicycles, I bought another one. It's old, but very sound. I gave my boss $50 for her old touring bike, a Specialized Sirius. I think I got a good deal, even though it's a good bit too tall for me. (My boss is about 5'10" tall; I'm 5'2" tall.)
Despite my wealth of bicycles, I have been walking a lot. The distance to work is three miles, right on the boundary of walking vs. cycling distance for me. With one end of my commute in Downtown, cycling always brings traffic issues. Walking also involves less equipment, and, therefore, less "fussing" with my equipment. Walking remains my favorite means of travel; I wish I had the time to go everywhere that way.
On top of that, I've discovered audio books. They make a good accompaniment to walking. They're good "reading" on the bus, too. I have motion sickness if I read print while I'm moving. Audio books solve that problem. I spent some time walking and listening at lunch, to the library to get another audio book.
The book I listened to today is an abridged version of "You Mean I'm Not Lazy, Stupid or Crazy?!", a book about Attention Deficit Disorder, which I have. It's good listening. In fact, I think I'll look for the print version. The authors give several lists of coping strategies that I'd like to have for reference. I'll study more before buying, though. This book came out in 1993; I'd like to learn more and study any new ideas before I buy.
I think I have the settings right on this blog so that readers may comment without registering for or belonging to anything. Please let me know if I'm wrong.

Hey, please read the detailed fine print on Fleetwood ... if you full-time your warrenty is void due to excessive use ... I am not kidding, read it for yourself. There are a lot of other RV manufacturers who do not have this clause in their warranty. -Dave
Very delayed reaction:
Some others also have this clause. In the meantime (since you commented), Fleetwood has eliminated themselves by moving to Mexico and by collecting more negative comments on quality issues. Thanks for the interest, though.
