Glad not to be in New Orleans right now

(This is Calvin.) I'm taking the day off today, mostly because tomorrow's our anniversary. Loretta's working; I'm sitting here watching the coverage of Hurricane Katrina hitting New Orleans on TV. The mayor just said that water is coming into the city over parts of the levee system.

I visited New Orleans several times in the late 1970s. It's a pretty city, and most of the people are friendly. Probably by this time, it doesn't look the same as it did yesterday. I hope that most of the people don't lose much or get hurt or killed. I suppose that a few stayed in their houses; that's the most dangerous thing to do. I wish them well, but I'm glad that I live elsewhere.

We expect to get rain and storms from Katrina tomorrow (Tuesday) or Wednesday. While she will have lost a lot of her force by then, the storms probably will remain strong enough to take seriously.

I don't think I have an audience for this blog yet, but write anyhow just to express myself.
